Rhodes, a Greek island on the eastern edge of the Mediterranean,is a fascinating land, full of contrasts. It is the largest of the Dodecanese islands and the island group’s historical capital. Historically, Rhodes was famous worldwide for the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Medieval Old Town of the City of Rhodes has been declared a World Heritage site. Picturesque villages, lush landscapes, rocky and wild coastlines and long sandy beaches all fuse with historical monuments. With the luxury of an excellent climate for most of the year, Rhodes is one of the most popular destinations in Greece.
The stunning city of Rhodes is both modern and medieval. The modern part of the city provides excellent shopping, restaurants & bars, theatres, banks, medical care, public transport and more. The ancient Medieval Old Town still stands in excellent condition, with impressive architecture, cobbled streets, towers and bridges. The imposing Palace of the Grand Master, with its eighty huge halls, dominates the old city. The main harbour is adorned with two deer statues at the point where it’s suggested the Colossus of Rhodes once stood.
The most popular beaches on the island are Elli Beach, Glyfada, Ixia, Ialyssos, the 5km long sandy beach of Faliraki, Tsampika, the beaches and coves of Lindos, the rocky beach in Kallithea, Ladiko, Prasonisi, Kiotari, Koskinou, Agios Pavlos and Kremasti.
